Morocco Travel Guide: Practical Tips for Your Trip
Best time to visit Morocco, how long to spend in the Sahara, what to pack, getting around and etiquette — practical advice from a Marrakech team.
Best time to go
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the most comfortable seasons. Winter is sunny but nights in the desert and the Atlas are cold; summer is very hot inland but pleasant on the coast in Essaouira and Agadir.
How many days do I need?
For a first visit, 7–10 days lets you combine Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes. With 3–5 days, focus on Marrakech plus a desert trip. With 12+ days you can add Chefchaouen, the Atlantic coast and the Atlas.
Getting around
Trains link Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Fes and Marrakech. For the desert, the Atlas and small villages, a private driver is the easiest and safest option.
What to pack
Light layers, a warm jacket for desert nights, comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a scarf. Shoulders and knees covered are appreciated in villages and religious sites.
Money and tipping
The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Cards work in hotels and bigger shops; carry cash for souks and tips. Tipping guides and drivers is customary but always voluntary.
Language
Arabic and Amazigh (Berber) are official languages; French is widely spoken and English is common in tourism. Our team speaks English, French and Spanish.
Frequently asked questions
How far is the Sahara from Marrakech?
The Merzouga dunes (Erg Chebbi) are about 560 km from Marrakech, roughly 9–10 hours of driving, so 3 days is the realistic minimum for a desert trip.
When is the best time to visit Morocco?
October to April is ideal for the desert and the south: warm days (19–25 °C) and cold nights. Spring and autumn are best for the whole country.
Are your tours private?
Yes. Every tour, day trip and transfer is private for your group, with your own vehicle and driver.
